A Picking We Will Go...

It's finally starting to look and feel like spring! Did you hear that parts of Colorado and Nebraska got snow over the weekend? Thankfully we only received rain and no severe weather. Spring is sometimes a turbulent time, lots of changes going on.

We were traveling over the weekend to celebrate with my husbands family and had a wonderful Mother's Day celebration with his mom. On the long drive we stopped in at a few second hand and vintage shops on the way.  I'm sharing a few photos of some items I picked up. Most will end up in my shop, but I may have to squirrel away a few to enjoy for myself first!

I was using my new smart-phone and have figured out that it must be smarter than me, because it occasionally just starts taking pictures on it's own. Pardon a few are a bit blurry, I am still trying to get the hang of the thing.

First off, I found this cute Fuzzy Wuzzy Bear book in a paper-back version. I couldn't pass up the cute illustrations. I'll share some of them later on.

I also found a Billy Bunny book published by the Vogard company which also published the Raggedy Ann books back in the 1920's.  Next up is a cute book called Little Elephants Christmas (1944) and another book with some great illustrations called A Home for Turkey Gobbler.

Here are some darling pottery pieces!
I found dogs in boats, dogs with bows and a Scotty dog salt shaker.

I also found pigs, teacups and of course some deer!

The planter above is a darling version of Bambi! Unfortunately, it has a small chip on one ear. Otherwise it is stunning with the gold application! The planter is on top of a fabulous vintage table cloth with pink roses.

I fell in love with this cute little Raccoon planter!

.....And how could I pass up this charming Elf with his cart??

Here is another shot of some of my fresh picks! The gigantic peanut with the squirrel on top was a great find, so darned cute! The squirrel to the left matches the squirrel on top the nut!

Below are a few photos of one of the most organized antique shops I have ever seen. There is never a speck of dust on anything! I can't imagine how she keeps it up. It is a very old fashioned store and she does not use the internet, so the only way to buy is in person. She is located in South Dakota, if you would like further information you can contact me. The owner's are very quirky but sweet.

Oodles of Pyrex and glassware.

Some fabulous Christmas Pyrex. Sorry for the blurrr.

I love the fruit pattern Pyrex, but I just don't have the room for it!

This was only a small part of the store, we were in a hurry so
I had to get back to my shopping!

I hope you all have been having a wonderful week and that your weather has also been Spring-like! Soon I should have some flowers to share, things are just getting started around here.  For now, I will be organizing and photographing some of these items to list in my shop.

See you soon!

Shawnee Pottery Collecting

Here are a few of my favorite Shawnee Pottery Company pieces. These items have been collected over the past twenty years. One piece I inherited and didn't even know it was Shawnee. These items did not actually start my collection though, it was a single teapot found in California. Then it was another, and another and well you know how it goes!

In April and October I do a complete cleaning of the top of the cabinets in my kitchen where my collections reside. In between I do a little bit of dusting, but twice a year I haul out the ladder and climb up there to remove everything from the top of my cabinets. I run them through the glass cycle on my dishwasher and they come out beautifully clean. My pottery has all the paint under the glaze so I don't worry about hurting it. I also do not use the heat cycle on the dishwasher. Since they were all so clean and shiny, I thought it was the perfect time for them to get their pictures taken.

These are the Puss-N-Boots cats. The two little ones are creamers and the large one is a cookie jar. They are probably the most valuable  pieces I own.  My husband and I found them over 15 years ago in Missouri. I took the color from the pottery for my kitchen cabinets and I hand mixed the blue paint for the trim to match the blue in the teapots and kitties. I just love the colors of the pottery and their cute little kitty faces!

The Little Chef cookie jar belonged to my mom. She had it on her kitchen counter for forty some years and it was always filled with homemade cookies!  Only after she passed away and I inherited it did I look at the bottom and realize that it was a Shawnee piece.

Teapots started the collection over 20 years ago in California.

This teapot has gold trim and gold decals.

Shawnee Pottery was started in Zanesville, Ohio in 1937.  The company closed in 1961.  Most pieces had paper labels to denote their origin, however most of those have long since disappeared. Many pieces have USA incised into the bottom of the pottery.  Shawnee Pottery was sold at the local Five and Dime store very inexpensively.  Pieces are becoming more collectible over time, especially the cookie jars and gold trimmed items.

The kitty on the right is wearing a pink straw hat, just because!

I have three teapots that have a blue and pink flower on them.

I have four teapots with blue flowers.

Notice the different handles on the teapots. Also the styles of the base are different, some have a scalloped border and others are plain or have a horizontal border.

The top of the wall between the kitchen and living room is open. It's the perfect place for my teapots! I have a total of twelve teapots, plus one without a lid that I use as a pen/pencil holder. I also have several Shawnee salt and pepper shaker sets, but I will save them for another time!

I am happy with the size of my collection and don't plan on adding anymore teapots or Puss-N-Boots. Sometimes it's just good to enjoy what you have and be satisfied.

Hope  you enjoyed my collection. Until next time!

Some Cute Vintage Finds

This past week just flew by! I took a couple of days to tend to my flower gardens and a couple more days to go to some estate sales. Today I would like to share my wonderful vintage finds with you.

This cute kitty planter is from the 1950's.  It is unmarked, but some research has led me to think this is a Shawnee Pottery piece. I have not been able to verify that for sure, so I need to do a bit more digging. She is so cute with her long beautiful eyelashes! I may be falling in love with this little sweetie!

I found this extra large watercolor paint set, by Page of London. The theme is Alice in Wonderland and features a detailed lithograph of the famous tea party. This tin has most of the paint blocks still intact and the tin itself is in remarkable condition.

A quick search found that a few years ago one sold at a Christie's auction for around $500.  However some have sold recently for much less.  My husband has several more of these tins with different themes, but he will not let me sell them (even though they have just been sitting in a box in our basement for years)!

I love the magical creatures!

Pose for the camera and say peanuts!

Look at these cute little elephant salt and pepper shakers from Hull/Leeds Pottery. They are just so cute, one has yellow ears and the other has blue ears! They are from the 1940's.

This poor little lass has lost her mate! She is supposed to be singing, while he accompanies her on the accordion. Right now I think she is saying "Boohoo! I'm all alone!" She is one half of a set of the Shawnee Pottery Company Swiss Children Salt and Pepper shakers. I did find her mate for sale in another online shop. Maybe the two will be reunited! She is also from the 1950's.

Here is another Shawnee Pottery piece, a small planter of a rabbit peeking around a tree stump. I have to say I think this rabbit looks a little deranged, but that's just my opinion! I am sure someone would love the little guy!

Our outdoor sales and markets are just getting started so can't wait to get out there and look for more. Now if I could just focus on getting them all listed in my shop I would be doing great!

Oooh, I think the sun is coming out! Off to take some pictures of my garden!   ~~ Diane

Cute Vintage Things...

Here are a few Vintage items I would like to show you today. The first two are for sale and have been added to my shop. The bottom two are in my collection and not for sale at this time. Let me clarify that Etsy allows anything twenty years or older to be listed as Vintage. Some of my items are much older than that. I and many other Etsians have taken this pledge. It is noted in my welcome page on my Etsy shop.

Crave Cute has taken The Honest Vintage Pledge: Everything that I have tagged as vintage in my shop is at least twenty years old or older. I stake my reputation on it. I will never knowingly sell a fake or a repro knockoff to my customers. EVER.

This is a really cute vintage lamp of Puss in Boots made by Lane and Co. It stands 10.5" tall and the base is 5" x 3.5". It is signed Lane and Co. Van Nuys CALIF USA c. 1961. The lamp is in good shape but it does have a chip on the back of the hat. It works but I would recommend having it rewired. There is no shade included with the lamp. Puss in Boots has been revived in the last few years by the recent movies including his new image. I still like this softer and more friendly version. I think he would be happy in either a girl or boy's room. Just find a cute small lampshade that doesn't overwhelm the figure. You might use this as a nightlight. Look for the nightlight bulb (7 watt) which will fit in the standard light socket and add a timer.

This is a beautiful vintage swan by Norcrest Japan. The swan measures about 5" tall and 8" long. It has a lovely blue iridescent glaze with silver trim on the eyes, bill and on the leaves and tips of the flower petals. There are no chips or cracks and it is in it's original condition. This swan is just over twenty years old and I have enjoyed it myself all of those years. I still love it but sometimes you just have to know when to let go!

This is a perfect little dish to hold wrapped candies or in the bath or bedroom holding a lovely scented potpourri. This would make a very elegant gift for someone special. I have almost talked my way out of selling it! I must be strong!

The next two pictures are two items that I am not selling because I still love them so much!

Darling Vintage Cat Lamp - she has no markings. A pink one on Etsy is priced at over a hundred dollars.

My Sweet Little Swan - no markings, perhaps Shawnee Pottery Company.

As you can tell, I really love vintage items. My recent finds are some vintage local cook books and I will eventually be getting them photographed to list in my shop. So much to do, so little time!

If any of you know any more about the white kitty and the little swan just above, please share in the comment section. Thanks for stopping by and have a lovely day!
