Summer Sizzle Winter Wonderland Mashup

It's Hot, Hot, Hot!

Why is it so hot? Because the State Fair just started and it's always hot this time of year. I'm hoping to go, but I'm not sure I can stand the heat and the crowds and the heat...   Anyway, I found some cute how hot is it quotes for you off the internet. Take a look at some of these.

It's hotter than....

a pig on a flapjack.

a firecracker lit on both ends.

the Devil's armpit.

It's so hot.....

you could fry an egg on an ice cube.

the trees are whistling for dogs.

you could roast marshmallows on your belly.

you could eat hot peppers to cool off your mouth.

you can make Instant Sun Tea.

the chickens are laying hard boiled eggs.

It's so hot and humid....

it's like walking through butter.

the mosquitoes are wearing snorkels.

I've been taking showers to dry off.

I had to cover the fish tank to keep the fish in.

Remember when it was like this??? I would love to have just a
bit of this coolness right now!

Maybe these snow scenes will help get you in the mood for a few fun Winter/Christmas things I picked up at some estate sales a few weeks ago. Here is a little sneak peak at what I found. These pictures are not the greatest quality but just a little preview.  My husband was holding up some of my finds, those are his fingers in a few of the photos.

Most of the books and art posters where picked from an estate of an elderly man who had been a Pastor. He and his wife had traveled to Sweden and Norway several times and had an
enormous collection of items.

These are poster prints of Swedish artists such as Jenny Nystrom, Erik Forsman and others. I am still researching these. They were purchased between 1955 and 1990. I like to get background information from the estate sellers as it always helps to authenticate items. I think we picked up about 18 of these posters!

I found a few more punch out books and other unusual children's books.

Neat sheet music with fabulous graphics!

At a different sale I found a sweet little salt shaker reindeer
and a darling pink sleigh!

Hope you enjoyed my hot summer sizzle/winter wonderland mashup! As always thanks for visiting!

Have a wonderful and hopefully cool week! I will be inside enjoying my air conditioning until this heat moves on! ~~~ Diane

  3. You sure found some neat things! Those Scandihoovians love their elves, gnomes and wee folk, don't they? My favourite hot weather saying is that "it's hotter than the hubs o' hell." My father used to say that all the time.

  5. Oh you definitely had me smiling ! Love the reindeer salt shaker.
The weather here has been SO comfy lately compared to all our July heat waves.
Mid August in our part of the woods has been mid to high seventies and low humidity , cool sleeping nights ...I am loving it !

  7. That reindeer salt shaker is very cute! I have to admit, I'm not looking forward to winter just yet, mainly because my summer hasn't been as hot as it normally should be. The weather has been nice, but not hot! We did manage to have one small heat wave in July that lasted less than a week, but other than that, it has been unusually cool for summer. Sadly, the mornings have been in the 60s which makes it feel a little like Autumn....*sigh*.

  10. We have finally cooled off a little but that snow still looks nice. I see from the comment that you have lots of humidity, that makes the heat seem so much worse. Fortunately our triple digit heat comes with very low humidity. I love all of your estate sale finds.

  11. The trees are whistling for dogs is such a brilliant line – I’m going to remember that one! I am so envious of all your ‘paper’ finds, especially the punch out books, can’t wait to see more.

  12. So I was just there visiting my family, and people thought we were nuts, but it didn't feel as hot as it does on the West Coast at the same temp. Not sure why - breeze? Slight humidity?

    1. We had fab weather up until, I think it was the 23rd and then the heat moved in. Before that it was fantastic! The worst day so far was yesterday, Aug 27, the heat index was 107. I spent all morning and evening watering my yard (we have watering time restrictions and only can water every other day between certain hours). I'm glad you had a nice time though! I've lived in CA and I remember it being about 113 one day, but it was a dry heat! Twas' still miserable! Cooler weather is supposed to move in by Monday. I will try to be less crabby! Keep cool everyone!!

  14. Oh I really like your Christmas in the middle of summer post Diane! Loved the quotes - but after living in this part of the world I would NEVER complain about hot weather if I had it again - for me its just a distant memory & I do miss it! I love your books - I'd want to keep them all for myself :)
